A Proven Community Builder
I’ve lived and worked in Canmore for over 30 years — as a small business owner, two-term councillor, Rotary Club President, and founding chair of the Canmore–Sedona Sister City Association. My vision is clear: a Canmore that balances livability, affordability, and environmental protection so residents can thrive in the place we call home.
My Priorities for Canmore
1. Fix the Livability Tax: A Vision for Healing the Community
- The Livability Tax is divisive and has eroded our sense of community. It has created conflict and left the Town fighting costly legal battles. Tripling property taxes on non-primary residences is not the way forward. Residents want solutions that make housing more attainable — not Town policies that create resentment.
2. Transparency & Legal Accountability
- Resolve current legal challenges (livability tax, offsite levies) through consultation and proactive policy, not court battles.
- Strengthen transparency in council decision-making so residents know how and why decisions are made.
3. A Vibrant & Livable Downtown
- Build on the Connect Downtown redevelopment plan with real input from businesses and residents.
- Support pedestrian-friendly streets, public washrooms, gathering spaces, and arts and culture.
- Maintain sightlines on Main Street, while allowing thoughtful density elsewhere.
- Plan for smart parking solutions, including intercept parking and strategic parkades.
4. Protecting Our Environment & Safety
- Champion regenerative tourism so visitors contribute to conservation, housing, and infrastructure.
- Support FireSmart programs and forest health to reduce wildfire risk.
- Work with partners on passenger rail, grade separation, and emergency access improvements.
- Explore an EMS station downtown to ensure timely response during rail blockages.
5. Strong Community Partnerships
- Strengthen collaboration with residents, businesses, and regional partners.
- Support local organizations and initiatives that give back — building on my leadership with The Rotary Club of Canmore and Canmore-Sedona Sister Cities Association.
- Ensure Canmore’s growth reflects our values of community, fairness, and sustainability.
My Vision for Canmore
Canmore is more than a destination — it’s our home. My commitment is to protect what makes this valley remarkable, while ensuring families, workers, and seniors can afford to stay here. Together, we can create a Canmore that thrives for residents first, while welcoming visitors in a way that strengthens, not strains, our community.
