Sense of Community:

  1.  Ensure municipal policies support the development of a socially-responsive, safe and caring community. 
  2.  Working with our partners and the private sector and citizens that result in the development of more affordable housing inventory. Ensure cost-of-living factors are fully considered in all government policy decisions aimed at stabilizing our permanent population base. 

Environmental Stewardship:

  1. Ensure residents understand and participate in the initiatives that strengthen Canmore’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
  2. Promote a conversation of protecting Canmore and areas wildlife corridors and habitat patches. Have a more focused and action orientated community conversation to protect our Wildlife asset to solidify wildlife corridors and habitat patches. Our municipality needs to lead this discussion with Provincial support.
  3. Support the development of purpose-built trails in sensitive areas where human and wildlife conflict can be reconciled. 
  4. Continue work on the Enhanced Recycling Program, improving the recycling potential while reducing waste.

Economic Diversification:

  1. Ensure there is a long-range strategy in place that considers Canmore’s role and visitor interest within the Bow Valley. Sustainable funding model for tourism marketing and economic development.
  2. Hire an in-house Economic Development Officer to work with Council and community partners to develop an economic strategy.
  3. Promote Canmore as an attractive place to live, work and do business. 
  4. Introduce Broadband internet to Canmore – This is critical and necessary Infrastructure to promote economic growth.

Fiscal Responsibility:

  1. Advocate for a new funding relationship with the province that recognizes the impact of Canmore’s visitor-adjusted and non-permanent population - Resort Municipality consideration.
  2. Ensure the residential and commercial tax rates paid by the ratepayers are commensurate with the benefits received and the contributions made to Canmore.  
  3. Ensure Canmore’s new long-term financial plan is responsive to community needs.

Special Events:

  1.  Support this important area and manage the events we have. Canmore is in a great position of attracting events and keeping them because of our extraordinary and welcoming community. Managing congestion, traffic flow, parking and when events take place are important to manage this asset.

Seniors’ Housing:

  1.  Focus efforts on ensuring Canmore’s continued success in this important area and look towards increasing the variety of care levels. Continue to support and advocate for additional seniors housing.
